85% of UK Contractors Are Walking Away From Work

A megadeal rewires the ConTech landscape, a $10M seed bets AI can finally read drawings, and UK contractors are saying no to 85% of tenders as Iran fears hit pricing. BEST MOMENT THIS WEEK

This week, we sat down with Maryrose Lyons, founder of The AI Institute, who trains mid-size AEC firms across the UK and Ireland on how to actually deploy AI. Halfway through the conversation, she dropped the line every construction CEO needs to hear, and the one that reframes "we haven't started on AI yet" from a cautious position into an active liability.

"Shadow AI use is where people come in and go, 'ah, we don't really use AI in our business at all.' And then you dig a little deeper and ask the staff… and they're all using free ChatGPT on their phone. That is so scary. I get a little pain in my tummy every time I think about shadow AI because all of your company data is leaving via your staff's phones."

The uncomfortable truth: if leadership hasn't picked the tools, the staff already have. And the data's already out the door.
